A quick note on air fryers:

I have a Power XL 7 quart air fryer. This recipe makes enough to cook the pigs in a blanket up in two batches so they don’t end up overcrowded in the air fryer. You want them to cook up nice and golden brown so they need a little space around each piece. If you have a smaller sized air fryer you may need to cook them in more than two batches.

How to make Air Fryer Pigs In A Blanket

Ingredients:

  • Lil smokies sausages – I used the Hillshire Farms brand but you can also use your favorite cocktail sized sausage or even hot dogs
  • Crescent rolls – I used Pillsbury crescent rolls
  • Egg – medium sized
  • Water – just a little to make the egg wash
  • Option: Everything Bagel seasoning mix, coarse salt, poppyseeds or sesame seeds.

Recipe Directions:

Unroll a can of crescent roll dough. Separate the triangles of dough. Cut them into three pieces (see photo below on how to cut them).

Take the sausage out of the package. I like to rinse the sausages quickly and then pat them dry. This helps remove any excess moisture so the inside of the roll isn’t soggy. Place a sausage at the wide end of the piece of crescent roll. Roll up and set aside.

Continue to roll all the sausages in crescent roll dough.

In a small bowl mix the egg with the water. Brush over the tops of the sausage rolls.

If desired, sprinkle a bit of Everything Bagel seasoning mix, coarse salt, poppyseeds or sesame seeds over the top of each sausage roll.

Preheat your air fryer according to the manufacturer’s instructions.

Place about 12 sausage rolls evenly spaced in the air fryer (depending upon your air fryer size). Cook for 4 minutes at 350 degrees.

Turn the sausage rolls and cook at 350 degrees for another 3 or 4 minutes or until they are evenly browned.

Remove and enjoy!

Storage Instructions:

Store in a food storage bag or covered container up to 5 days in the refrigerator.

Substitutions:

Lil Smokies – you can easily substitute another type of mini or cocktail sausage in their recipe. Don’t have mini sausages? You can easily cut regular sized hot dogs into 3 pieces and wrap them with the crescent roll dough.

Crescent rolls – Pillsbury now makes a sheet of crescent roll dough. This sheet isn’t cut into triangle pieces. You can swap out the crescent rolls for the sheet of dough. Cut the large sheet of dough into 4 equal pieces vertically. Then cut each vertical piece horizontally into 1 inch wide strips.

You can also use a sheet of puff pastry in place of the crescent dough. Most puff pastry sheets are folded into three pieces. Cut the sections apart and then cut 1 inch wide strips from each section to wrap around the sausages.

Serve them with your favorite sauce or dip. We like ketchup, mustard, BBQ, beer cheese, chili cheese or Come Back dipping sauce.
